Art Adventures for Kindergarten 2009-2010
Join KidzArt for our imaginative, full-year Art
Adventures program! Whimsical and endangered animals, mythical and
fantasy worlds, and art from across the globe make up our fun and
playful kindergarten curriculum. Students build with clay, learn drawing
and painting techniques, and experiment with a variety of art media
including watercolor, oil and soft pastels, Art Stiks, and fabric
and illustration markers on a variety of surfaces and exotic papers.
KidzArt guides young children in the transition from random scribbling
to intentional drawing. Our program centers on teaching students to
focus and to see how lines and shapes fit together to create recognizable
forms. Clay used every session.
Six sessions make up our full-year curriculum:
Session A+B featured projects: Pirate
Bandanas and Scratch Art!
Session C+D featured projects: Book
Making and Canvas Pencil Bags!

KidzArt: SQUIGGLES TO GRINS
(Ages 2 to 3 ½ plus Mommy or Daddy)
Together you and your
child will discover the excitement of creating art! Tiny artists
are introduced to lines, shapes, colors, and textures, while using
washable tempera or watercolor paints. Projects are process oriented
but cleverly designed to create a recognizable product. Activity
and songs are themed to the art projects. Dress for mess and create
memories while having fun!
Classes are held at:
Santa Barbara Dance Arts, Hope Community Church, Goleta
Valley Community Center
KidzArt: PRESCHOOL DISCOVER
(ages 3 ½ to 5)
Through creative and fun exercises, children draw, paint,
make prints and create 3-dimensional projects while experimenting
with watercolor, illustration markers, pastels, clay, collage, and
stamps. They learn to
turn scribbles into lines and shapes and to draw recognizable shapes and forms.
Learning to draw is as complex as learning to read. In essence a child is learning
a new language which has both form and function. KidzArt guides young children
in the transition
from random scribbling to intentional drawing by helping them see with
focused eyes the world around them and how things fit together.

4. I want to enroll my child, but did
not get a flyer. What do I do?
All classes for the entire school
year are listed on this website or you can pick one up at your school’s
front office. If you have further questions you can always call 805-964-6435.
5. How many
children do you accept in your class?
We limit our classes to 18
students to ensure every child receives enough encouragement and
attention
6. What ages/grades do you accept?
We teach art to students K-6
in our after school program, and younger ones at separate locations.
7. Do you
combine age groups?
We prefer to separate the grades K, 1-3 and 4-6
into three classes so that all of the students are challenged at
the appropriate level. Depending on enrollment we may have one class
with all of the students. Because our student to teacher ratio is
low, we are able to guarantee that our younger and beginner students
get extra attention and our older and advanced students are given
additional challenges.
8. Does
my child need to bring anything?
No, KidzArt provides all artist-quality
supplies.
9. Can you pick
my child up at his/her classroom?
We do pick up our Kindergarten
students from their classrooms or after-school care. We will ensure
that all children make it to the KidzArt classroom before the class
starts. For grades 1st -6th f you are worried about your child finding
the classroom, instruct them to go to the front office and they will
help direct him/her to the class.
10. Who are your teachers?
KidzArt Certified Instructors are a combination
of teaching artist and current or future teachers. All of our instructors
go through a comprehensive training on the KidzArt method. The KidzArt
program is a national program and its methods have been proven for
over 15 years! All of our instructors are fingerprinted and cleared
through the CA Department of Justice.
11. Is every class or session different?
Yes, KidzArt projects do
not repeat.
12. What kind of projects will
my child do?
Throughout the year, students will draw, paint, sculpt, do print-making,
paper folding, and create multi-media projects. KidzArt is a drawing
based art-enrichment program designed to enhance visual arts skills
and build each child’s confidence. We use a wide variety of
artist quality media, cover the fundamentals of art and drawing,
explore art from different cultures, and incorporate art history
and great artists. Each and every project is “kid tested” to
ensure that all projects are fun and successful!
13. Is there a theme
for each session?
No, within each session, students will do a variety
of drawing and multi-media projects including animals, people, landscapes,
and still life objects. Projects and media used throughout the year
will include Prismacolor Illustration Markers, ArtStix, Oil Pastels,
Soft Pastels, Charcoal, Fabric Pens, Sandart, Scratch Art, Watercolor,
and Biocolor. Decorative papers, canvas, cooper foil, and other surfaces
are used.
14.
How does your program inspire creativity?
In each and every class we
brainstorm how students can add or change their drawings and projects,
ensuring that they learn to take risks and think “outside the
box.”
15. Did my child REALLY draw
that picture?
YES! Parents new to KidzArt sometimes ask if their child’s
picture was traced. NEVER…every piece of work that children
do in KidzArt is the ORIGINAL art of that child. Teachers guide children
in the process but never draw for them, thereby allowing the child
the full creative process. |
